Uruguay in Focus at Panoramica 2025
Uruguayan cinema expresses its own personality, narrative, and aesthetic, nurtured by a tradition of deeply human and multifaceted sensitivity.
For the first time, Panoramica turns its spotlight on a specific country: Uruguay, whose current film production, both in fiction and documentary, offers innovative, moving, and engaging perspectives on memory and resistance. In addition to co-producing as a majority partner, Uruguay is increasingly involved as a minority partner, thanks to an ecosystem that is attractive for its artistic and technical quality, as well as access to diverse funding opportunities.
Panoramica is proud to announce that actress Martina Passeggi will attend this year’s festival with the opening film A Bright Future, directed by Lucía Garibaldi, in which she plays the lead role. The film was recently awarded at Tribeca 2025. Martina will share her reflections on the current state of Uruguayan cinema in conversation with director Pablo Martínez Pessi, who returns to Panoramica to present his new documentary Into the River.
National productions have also gained international recognition, including Don’t You Let Me Go (Nora Ephron Award, Tribeca 2024), which will also be screened at Panoramica.
